What do you like best?

The ideation platform itself has been good, the help from the Support Team (Harry and Paul) was fantastic.

The user interface is clear and intuitive. The way of tracking idea pipeline is accessible for all users. It allows creating multiple innovation challenges on separate templates to shape the process according to the needs of the organization. The platform allows you to define various metrics for the assessment process, which is easy and clear for the users and reviewers at the ideation stage. Different modules of the E365 suite allow tracking not only the early stage of innovation but also some of the aspects from the POC/MVP stage. E365 Projects module is configurable to the needs of the organization – users are able to follow various attributes of the project. The reporting capabilities of E365 are also a great advantage – the PowerBI dashboards allow to presentation of the results of the innovation track in multiple dimensions.

edison365 is easy to use and easy to set up. It comes with a configuration that can work out of the box and get you up and running super quickly. You can use it on any device, and you can be sure about its security as it enables single sign-on through Microsoft 365. All data are stored in your tenant and Azure subscription (if using gamificaiton features).

What do you dislike?

PSR approval workflow would be useful however we delivered this with PowerAutomate using edison365s out of box integration to the PowerPlatform

It would be good if the conversation feature from edison365OpenInnovation was available in ediosn365ideas.

If your idea pipeline is dynamic and it is growing really fast the daily data maintenance in E365 may be time-consuming from the perspective of user activities like assigning the reviewers to the assessment process.

A number of times there were difficulties getting in contact with someone via phone. It would just ring and then say no one is available and cut off.

E365 suite helps me to track the innovation ideas pipeline across the organization using different attributes and goals. Once you recognize all needs and requirements from your organization it really helps to keep the data consistent and clear. One of the key benefits of the platforms is the reporting functionality used by PowerBI – shaping the reports and visualizing the data in accordance with the needs.

We use it to capture ideas that are then used for new propositions, as part of our product development process.

Pros:

I appreciate the well-rounded approach to the platform. Once the back-end has been set up (admins), it’s very intuitive for users, making adoption much easier. Most of the other options we demoed were strictly limited to idea submission and organization – great from the basic user standpoint. Edison does a much better job of thinking about how admins and challenge owners operate and makes the back-end processes simple (walking an idea from submission through execution). One stand-out function that is not available on many other platforms is the ability to save an idea as a “draft.” If you have an “aha moment” and want to jot it down quickly, but don’t have time to flesh it out immediately, this is very helpful.

Cons:

It lacks the ability to turn categories on/off for different challenge types. All categories are automatically available across the entire company. This can be a problem if you have very different subject areas targeted by specific challenges. Note that categories are a REQUIRED field to include in the build for an idea submission, so this cannot even be turned completely off at the idea submission level. The reporting functionality is great, but note that any custom edits to the Edison Ideation platform, such as new fields for idea submission, require custom editing of the template PowerBI report. It does not auto-update. Adding the custom fields is not immediately intuitive if you are not already familiar with PowerBI software. The triage feature is great, but limited. Different metrics can be assigned to different challenge types, however, they are accessible in every stage gate of the challenge and cannot be toggled on/off for specific stage gates. This can be annoying if an idea is only meant to be triaged in one stage gate, e.g., “review” vs. “awarded.” The idea submission form format cannot be edited (dimensions, orientation, text color, font, etc.), limiting customization.

Reasons for Choosing edison365 suite:

We evaluated four competitive products. We ultimately chose Edison for it’s comparatively robust all-around usability from both a “user” and “admin” perspective. For what it offers, it’s a STEAL at the price point. We already use the MS 365 suite, and since Edison runs on Sharepoint, it integrates with many of our existing systems.
