Basecamp Review 2022

Basecamp

What is Basecamp?

NEW in Basecamp 4: For a limited time, get your first 3 users free, for your first year. Group chat alone isn’t enough. Basecamp combines *all* the tools teams need together in one place: message boards, schedules, to-do lists, group chat, documents & file storage, and more. Instead of stuff scattered all over, everything you’re working on will be in one streamlined, organized place. Everyone will know what to do. Nothing will slip through the cracks. You’ll always know exactly whats going on.

Basecamp is more than just a project management tool — it’s a better way to work. Teams that switch to Basecamp are more productive and better organized. They communicate better and require fewer meetings. And they’re far more efficient than before.

Basecamp is a real-time communication tool that helps teams stay on the same page; it’s less for traditional project management tasks (e.g., resource planning and long-term scheduling). With to-do-lists, calendaring, due dates and file-sharing, Basecamp provides a way for teams to keep track of priorities and actionable items.
Since 2004, Basecamp has focused on developing a simple interface in which users can create projects, document progress and manage tasks. It is a web-based software, allowing users to sign in anywhere, any time, either through a web browser or through apps compatible with a large number of mobile devices.
Not specific to a single industry, Basecamp can be deployed by any organization that needs to manage a group, including nonprofits, startups and client service firms—and it can even be used by freelancers. Subscriptions are scalable, with tiers for varying amounts of storage and numbers of users.
What do you like best about Basecamp?

I have used Basecamp in my company for over a decade and love it. A complete tool with powerful add-ons where we put all the processes and tasks from the company in: from projects organization to HR announcements, training and procedures.

Today I manage more than 100 projects in parallel using Basecamp in a very organized way. It’s great that the plan does not charge for every new user or project, it’s limitless! For the volume of projects we have, it would be unviable to pay for each project or user (because we are a small company with lots of projects). Everything you need on a simple license and that’s simply great.

Quick to create a project and add the required team members through invites without having too many people around. I love how I can schedule and set a reminder and sync my Google account

Working in an advertising agency is exhausting, but a project management tool like Basecamp is beneficial with so many clients. I love how quickly I can share and notify the project updates out of my organization.

With Basecamp, managing web design projects and everything related to them becomes so much easier. The Basecamp platform is so intuitive and easy to use that even someone without any training can jump right in managing projects. The best thing about Basecamp is that it has web and mobile integrations, meaning you can use this tool no matter the device.Message boards are for larger-scale communications like announcements and presentations, whereas Grou chats can be used in casual conversations with friends. Ping is also good if you want to one on one or small group discussions about the same topic!

What do you dislike about Basecamp?

There are some features in Basecamp that would make it more useful, like being able to copy and paste data from an excel spreadsheet. Copying rows or columns is helpful when working on projects with many team members who all have different deadlines but need access at the same time! It would be so great to have a tab in Basecamp that’s similar to Excel.I can’t believe we’re not getting an auto-save option! It’s such a simple thing, and I’m sure people would love to have more connections.

There are sometimes too many notifications flooding in my inbox, and after the due date, it daily reminds. But overall, I have no significant dislikes

Some suggestions for the future of Basecamp from a daily user who loves the tool:

The Campfire tool might be improved to accept audio and GIFs, especially for quick audio sent on a mobile phone. Also, it would be great to have a tab of all active Campfires (just like Whatsapp Web), where you can easily focus the conversations in one single browser window. Today, I can’t fully substitute Whatsapp or Slack with Campfire (and it would be great if possible, in case of Campfire became more robust as a tool). Maybe even having a separated mobile app for Campfire, with usability focused on chat (as whatsapp), but integrated with the Basecamp projects, so we can keep all the corporate conversations on a unique tool. That would be perfect.

The new kanban tool is pretty cool but might be better integrated with to-do lists (like the Tracked Add-ons), instead of having each card not connected to the task-list (or you use one or another). Also, Tracked has the tagging system that is very useful and for sure could be implemented on native Basecamp. When the native tool was launched, I thought I would be able to substitute Tracked add-on, but I could not.

Also, it would be great if time tracking could be a native tool, without the need of hiring expensive add-ons (charged per user) to do the project’s time tracking. Also, a native Gantt chart tool would be nice!

What problems is Basecamp solving and how is that benefiting you?

Organization and project management.

The Basecamp app is one of the best ways to keep track of and update all projects we’re working with. It allows us access through boards and a calendar view, which helps provide visibility for changes happening within our product and keeps employees informed about any updates or new information coming out related. We are relying heavily upon this tool because it enables efficient management over each team member’s task list within these various types/projects they may have been assigned -you’ll never miss out again if your company needs some fresh ideas or just wants better communication between teams members

Our team uses Basecamp to modernize project management. Notifications are sent out for tasks, which gives the process a clean and efficient feel- without any unnecessary hassle or confusion on your end! Workflow automation is key to maintaining an efficient workflow. They have excellent at task scheduling and team collaboration and can even help you with your macro needs!

The project management problems in organizations like working in a team and working on different parts of projects in parallel.

As a software developer, I have to work with a team, and by using basecamp, my team and I can efficiently work on the project and also keep track of the progress of the project.
